Introduction

Buku Events is a West Coast lacrosse tournament and showcase company founded by Johnny Rodriguez, former national champion goalkeeper at Salisbury and 8-year pro. Based in Costa Mesa, CA, Buku runs tournaments and showcases across Southern California, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. 35,000 players and 750 teams a year. Sponsors include STX, Gatorade, and USA Lacrosse.

Challenge

When Johnny came to us, Buku Events was running on duct tape. Website on LeagueApps. Contact data in Google Sheets. Email blasts through Wix. Sales pipeline in a HubSpot account that wasn't connected to any of it. Coaches, directors, and parent contacts from event registrations sat buried inside LeagueApps with no way to pull them out, segment them, or market to them. Three employees spent hours every week manually exporting registrant lists, cross-referencing them against old spreadsheets, and copy-pasting contacts into email tools one event at a time.

Solutions

We stripped the old setup and rebuilt everything around HubSpot. Clean data, one system, no more duct tape. Johnny needed the new site live by New Year's, so it was a full sprint from October 1 through December 31. We were building pages over Thanksgiving and pushing the site live while everyone else was watching the ball drop. New website, new branding, and 2026 event registrations all launched at the same time.
